Private Jones was posted to Fort Mason, Arizona Territory. He was mustered out at Fort Yuma, Imperial County, California, March 19, 1866. After the war he married (wife's name unknown), whom he later divorced. William filed for a Civil War veteran's pension in California on September 22, 1896, and received application No. 1,181,318 and certificate No. 1,123,242. He refiled for his veteran's pension June 10, 1907. William was admitted to the California Veterans' Home at Yountville, where he appears as a resident, age 72 years, in the 1910 US Census. William Jones died at the Veterans' Home and was buried in the home's cemetery.
