FLORENCE - Eugenia Turrentine Aiken died Friday, August 24, 2012, at the Presbyterian Retirement Home in Florence, South Carolina. Born on November 22, 1917, in Petersburg, Virginia, Eugenia was the only daughter of Duncan Cameron and Mabel Newton Turrentine.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jefferson Boone Aiken, Jr., in 1998: by her parents: and by her four brothers: Walter Daniel Turrentine, Samuel Avery Turrentine, Duncan Cameron Turrentine, Jr. and William Newton Turrentine.

During her early childhood, Eugenia's family moved to Greenville, South Carolina. She was a graduate of Greenville High School and of Furman University. While a student at Furman, Eugenia majored in music and became an accomplished pianist. She was also the recipient of many honors, including her induction into Senior Order, one of Furman's highest student awards given for outstanding leadership and character. At Furman, Eugenia met Jefferson Boone Aiken, Jr., of Florence. They were married on November 30, 1940, and made their home in Florence.

Together they were active in the Florence community and were faithful members of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Aiken was a charter member of The Junior League of Florence and she enjoyed her friendships in The Junior League, The Wildwood Garden Club, and The Assembly. Eugenia was known for her genuine warmth and graciousness which she expressed to everyone. Mrs. Aiken was devoted to her family and leaves a legacy of beauty, truth, goodness, grace, and love. The blessing of her life will be with us always.

Mrs. Aiken is survived by her children: Sydnor Aiken Money and her husband Robert of Knoxville, Tennessee; Jefferson Boone Aiken, III, and his wife, Robin; and Cornelia Aiken Owens and her husband Lynn, all of Florence; her seven grandchildren: Robert Eugene Money, Jr. and his wife Rhonda; Meredith Money Beam and her husband Andrew; Jefferson Aiken Money; Jennifer Emily Aiken; Mary Margaret Aiken Manning and her husband Patrick; Jefferson Boone Aiken IV; and Lynn Richard Owens, Jr.; her six great grandchildren: Rich-ard Andrew Beam, Jr., David Aiken Beam, John William Beam, Robert Jefferson Money, Sarah Cornelia Money, and Oliver Aiken Manning; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Presbyterian Home and their excellent staff for their devotion and care of our mother for the past 8 years. We are also grateful for the faithfulness of many others, including Ruth Howard, Idella Richardson, Icymae James, Joan Beasley, Kitania Sanders, Beverly Crawford and DeLores Rush.

The funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Monday, August 27, at the Presbyterian Home in Florence in the Graham - Johnson - McCullough Chapel, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
