Buwalda.

Gerrit A. Buwalda died at his home on north Main Street at 1:00 a. m. Saturday, October 7, 1922, aged 70 years, 2 months, and 7 days. His dead was caused by ulcers of the stomach, with which he had suffered two years.

Mr. Buwalda was born on a farm northwest of Pella. At the age of twenty years, he came to town and worked as a blacksmith for Schubrink & Fosdick in what was known as the Burlington Shop. In 1888, in partnership with his brother and E. I. Roorda, he started the first electric light plant in Pella. Since the establishment of the municipal electric plant, he has been a faithful employee of the Garden City Feeder Company, working for them for ten years.

On July 1, 1873, Mr. Buwalda was united in marriage to Nancy Elizabeth Hammel, who preceded him in death a few years ago. He leaves to mourn his death an only son, Abr. Buwalda, one brother A. A. Buwalda, and one sisters, Mrs A. Roorda. His son and the latter's wife and daughter cared for him in his illness. There are many other more distant relatives who will remember him as an upright man.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 9th, at the home at 1:30 p . m. and at the Second Reformed church at two o'clock. Interment was at Oakwood cemetery.
