Daughter of John and Mary Hodge Hudson.
At the age of eleven, her family moved to Alton. She graduated Alton High School and Shurtleff College. She taught school in Alton for seven years. Her sister, Sarah Hudson was one of Alton's most beloved teachers.
Married William H. Cartwright on September 1, 1886 in Madison County, IL.

Survived by her husband; two daughters: Miss Vinot Cartwright of Alton and Mrs. I. L. Foulon of East St. Louis; a grandson; and a sister, Mrs. Emeline Eberhardt of Orange, N. J.

Member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union and the local chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution.
