Although the grave marker shows 1870 and so does the 1920 U.S. Census, the 1900 U. S. Census shows 1871. Further, the 1930 and 1940 U.S . Census show 1872. The U.S. Social Security Applications and Claims Index 1936-2007 shows his birth date as 15 November 1872 in Donahue, [Scott County] Iowa.
