Lucy was the 7th of 12 children that were born to Hoel (Howel) and Elizabeth Gilman Matson. She was married to John Leonard Thompson, also of VT. John and Lucy and their children (Wilbur O., Sarah E., Lucy N., John L., Laura E. and Sylvester N.) lived in Wolcott,Lamoille Co., VT before moving to Sauk Rapids, Minnesota in 1857. All of the children except Sarah moved to Minnesota. Lucy died of scrofula according to the 1860 mortality census. Her grandson, the son of her son Wilbur, is also buried in this cemetery.

Cemetery is on a plot of land known as the Hayes Estate. It was originally a family plot in the corner of a woods.
