Erwin B. Heise, 67, a former official of shipbuilding industry at Manitowoc,
died Sunday morning while golfing at Shalgogoco Country Club, Shawano, after
suffering a heart attack.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. James Episcopal Church,
Manitowoc, with the Rev. Robert F. Sweetser officiating. Burial will be in
Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Heise was born June 17, 1895, at Manitowoc, son of the late Richard and
Sara Golding Heise. He attended public schools at Manitowoc and was graduated
from the Manitowoc Business College in 1912. He joined the office staff of
Manitowoc Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. and in 1915 was named assistant cashier
and timekeeper. He joined the United States Army in 1918 and served in the tank
corps. He was discharged in 1919. He married Jessie Smejkal April 15, 1918, at
Waukegan.
Upon his return from service he again was employed by the shipbuilding firm and
became assistant treasurer in 1949. In 1952 when the three companies merged he
was named secretary and assistant treasurer of The Manitowoc Co., Inc. He retired
in 1960.
He and his wife spent the summer months at a lake cottage at Shawano and the
winter months at Largo, Fla. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and
served for a number of years in the Vestery of that church. He was also a member
of Manitowoc Masonic Lodge 65, F and AM, of Pine Crest Country Club of Largo and
of Schaloogoco Country Club of Shawano.
Among survivors are his wife, a daughter, Mrs Lincoln Kliment, of Manitowoc; a
sister, Mrs. Minnie Morris, of Manitowoc and two grand children, a son preceded
him in death in 1930.
Friends may call at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc, where the Masonic Lodge will
conduct rites at 8 o’clock this Tuesday evening. The Ameican Legion will conduct
graveside service. Memorials may be made to the St. James Episcopal Church or to
Manitowoc Masonic Lodge.
