ROSA FECHTER

Mrs. Rosa Fechter, 80, widow of Charles F. Fechter, pioneer Manitowoc merchant,
died Wednesday night at the family home, 1111 South Eighth street. She had been
seriously ill three weeks.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Fechter home, in charge
of the Rev. C.H. Phipps of the First Presbyterian church. Interment will be in
Evergreen cemetery.
Mrs. Fechter, nee Rosa Guttmann, was born in this city in 1859, the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Guttmann. She was educated in the schools of this city and in
1883 was married to Charles F. Fechter, proprietor and partner in the book store
of Piening and Fechter on South Eighth street. In 1890 he purchased his partner's
business and continued it under the name of the Fechter book store.
Mr. Fechter died 16 years ago, since which time Mrs. Fechter and her daughter,
Blanche, have conducted the business, the oldest book store in the state, having
been in the family for over 80 years.
Survivors are a daughter, Blanche, of this city; sister, Mrs. Gustav Alter, city;
three brothers, Albert and William Guttmann, city and Dr. Paul Guttmann of
Kellnersville; one grandchild and two great grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Reinhardt
Rahr, Jr., preceded her mother in death five years ago.
The body may be viewed at the Fechter home from Friday noon until the hour of the
services Saturday.
