Miss Blanche H. Fechter, 88, formerly of 1111 S. Eighth St., Manitowoc, died
Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Phipps Memorial Chapel of First
Presbyterian Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Dale Tutje will officiate with burial
in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Miss Fechter was born Aug. 29, 1889, at Manitowoc, daughter of the late Charles F.
and Rosa Guttmann Fechter. She attended Manitowoc schools and Manitowoc Business
College and was a Manitowoc resident all her life. She was employed as an
accountant by the former Kielsmeier Co. of Manitowoc and Milwaukee until the death
of her father in 1923, when she continued the operation of the Fechter Book store.
She sold her interest in the book store, which was in existence more than 100
years, in 1941. In 1944 she was employed as a part time accountant at Radio Station
WOMT, until her retirement in 1962. She was a charter member of Business and
Professional Women’s Club and a member of BPOE Elks Auxiliary.
Survivors include cousins.
Friends may call at Phipps Memorial Chapel after 11 a.m. Friday until the time of
service. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to
First Presbyterian Church or Memorial Hospital of Manitowoc. Jens Funeral Home,
Manitowoc, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
