AGED EMEMSON RESIDENT DIES
Funeral services for Joseph Bowle's who passed away Wednesday afternoon at the family home in Emerson were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of Mr. Bowles' daughter, Mrs. Willa Brunk, at Emerson, the rites being conducted by Rev. T. S. Scott of Philadelphia. The remains were interred in the Emerson Cemetery.
Mr. Bowles was born Jan. 1, 1847 (sic) in this county and had spent his entire life in the vicinity in which he died. He was the son of Dabney and Bertha Tyler Bowles who came to Missouri from Kentucky about a century ago. He was a member of the Emerson Baptist church. His death was due to influenza, his illness lasting for only a few days. Throughout his long life, he was a devoted husband, a kind father, a loyal friend and consistent Christian.
Surviving Mr. Bowles are his widow Mr., Susan Bowles, who is seriously ill at the family home; three daughters, Mrs. Willa Brunk of Emerson, Mrs. Rose Turner of Barry, Illinois, and Mrs. Ella Enid, of Oklahoma; two sons, Claude of Hannibal, and Joseph, Jr. of California; a sister, Mrs. Charles Scott of near here, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
