"Rose M Aikens passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs George Rose, Wednesday, July 20, at 3:45 pm from an acute heart attack. Her health had been failing for the past year, but up to the last she was able to be around with the family and friends, attending chuch services on Sunday at Spartansburg Methodist church. Rose M Potter was born June 4, 1874, a daughter of the late Sylvanus and Emeline Paige Potter of Bloomfield township. On Feb 14, 1895, she was married to Clyde W Aikens, who passed away on Jan 27, 1941. Since that time she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs Rose. Her married life has been spent at Western Sparta. She leaves a large circle of friends and relatives. Surviving are the following children: Murl Aikens, Union City, RD; Ray Aikens, Erie, RD; Mrs George Rose, Western Sparta, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs Mildred Aikens, at Erie. A son, Wayne, and a daughter, Frances, passed away several years ago. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and a brother, Will Potter, at Union City. Funeral services were held Friday at 2 pm at the home of the daughter, Mrs Rose. Rev A W Gibson of Erie and Rev E F Armitage of Spartansburg had charge of the services, with Rev Lloyd Chelton of Sligo assisting at the grave. Pallbearers were her six grandsons, Warren, Gordon and Douglas Aikens of Erie, Ivan and Harry Rose of Western Sparta, and Joseph McCray of Corry, RD. The many beautiful flowers showed the high esteem in which she was held. Interment was in the family lot at Rose Hill cemetery, Spartansburg..."
