OKLAHOMA CITY--Melville Louis Thompson was born to Edith and Harley Thompson on October 25, 1918 in Oklahoma City. Mel went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 7, 2012 in the arms of his wife, Carol Jean Thompson.

He was preceded in death by Mildred, his wife of 44 years; his second wife, Virginia; a son, Harley; and sisters, Jeannette and Elizabeth. Mel is survived by his twin sister, Louise Jordan of Marion, OH; two sons, Herbert B. and wife Kathy of Fayetteville, PA, and Mel, Jr. of Portland, OR; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Mel loved and was loved by his friends from Village Baptist Church, and close friends.

Mel was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and retired from the Pentagon after 30+ years where he worked with the Defense Printing publishing division and the Air Force. He enjoyed traveling to other states to help other government print departments run more efficiently.

He and Carol loved to travel. He loved woodworking and gardening. He enjoyed taking photos of flowers and friends, and then printing his photos on his own machine at home. He enjoyed sitting outdoors with Carol on the patio to enjoy their flowers. Heartfelt thanks to a special caregiver, Anna, who became like family to Mel and Carol. Thanks also to Paul from Amedysis, Deaconess and Heart Hospitals, and others who gave special care when needed.

Viewing will be Wednesday, 8am-9pm, with the family present from 5-7pm at Mercer-Adams. Services will be held at Village Baptist Church at 3:00pm on Thursday, July 12, 2012. Memorials may be made to Village Baptist Church in Mel's honor.
