Funeral services were held for Sidney A. Ragland, age 88, Saturday, August 1, 1964, at 2:00 p.m. at the Curry's Chapel Methodist Church, with Rev. James R. Cox, officiating. Burial was in the Brown's Chapel Cemetery with Sutton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ragland died in the Palace Rest Home in Red Boiling Springs after and extended illness.
Mr. Ragland was first married to Vallie Kanas Kirby, who preceded him in death in 1907. He later married Sarah Ann Kirby Ragland, who survives.
Survivors beside his wife include six sons: Lester and Verble Ragland of Granville, Savage Ragland of Cookeville, Vernon of Long Beach, California, Guy of Donelson, and Thurman of St. Clair Shores, Michigan; six daughters: Mrs. Doris Apple of Gainesboro, Route 4, Mrs. Farmer Brown of Cookeville, Mrs. Ethel Brown, Mrs. Nell Apple and Mrs. Elise Halfacre of Granville, and Mrs. Bobby Williams of Mt. Juliet, Route 1. Two sons, Cordell and Bedford preceded him in death. He has 43 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
