Mr. DeWitt formerly lived on Hope Street in Corunna. He was a foreman for the Auburn Automobile Co. in Connersville for 10 years, a rural mail carrier for the Corunna Post Office for 34 years and a night superintendent for Hubbard Spool Co. in Garrett for 10 years. He retired in 1974. He was a member and past commander of the Fathers Auxiliary of Kendallville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2749.
He was born June 30, 1906, in Garrett to the late Jay W. and Mattie (Mason) DeWitt. He married Margaret Dawson in 1929 and she died in 1944. He then married Genevieve Gushwa on April 26, 1952, in Garrett and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Larry of Goshen and Donald of Paulding, Ohio; one daughter, Myrna Smith of Indianapolis; one stepson, John Gushwa of Minneapolis, Minn.; one stepdaughter, Karen Tuttle of Clearwater, Fla.; eight grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call today from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Feller Funeral Home, Waterloo.
His funeral service will begin Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home, with calling after 1 p.m. The Rev. David Proctor, pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical Church in Paulding, Ohio, will officiate. Burial will take place in the Corunna Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to DeKalb Memorial Hospice.
