AUBURN - Evelyn Kolbe, 101, of Auburn died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at Betz Nursing Home in Auburn. Mrs. Kolbe was a secretary at DeKalb High School, retiring in 1972. She graduated from Garrett High School in 1928. She was a member of the Cedar Lake Church of Christ. She was also a member of the Auburn Garden Club, DeKalb Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at the Curiosity Shop and the Gift Shop at the hospital. She volunteeded at the Eckhart Public Library and the Heimach Senior Center. She was born July 27, 1910, in Richland Township, DeKalb County, Indiana, to Jay W. and Mattie (Mason) DeWitt. She married Hurshel Kolbe on May 29, 1933, in Connersville. He died June 28, 1986. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Tony J. and Sondra Kolbe of Kendallville, Timothy J. and Sue Kolbe of Bradenton, Florida; a daughter and son-in-law, Connie J. and Robert Menzie of Auburn; five grandchildren, Kris (Stephanie) Kolbe, Kim (Freddie) Diaz, Angie (Doug) Lockwood, Melissa (Bruce) Buttermore, Kevin (Krys) Kolbe and Tyler Kolbe; 11 great-grandchildren, Madison, T.J., Sofia, Lilia, Emilia, Chase, Grant, Nick, Luke, Lane and Cooper; and a brother, Tom L. (Mary Lou) DeWitt of Muncie. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three brothers, Joe DeWitt, Merton DeWitt, and John DeWitt. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 S. Center St., Auburn, with the Rev. Al Black officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in Auburn at a later date. The family will receive friends for 2 hours prior to the service Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funernal home. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Lake Church of Christ or the Heimach Center.
