Sr Agnes de Sales, member of Sisters of the Visitation in Wheeling since 1942, died Friday, March 20, 2009 at the Monastery in Wheeling. She was 88 years old.
Born in Charleston WV, she was the daughter of the Dr Benjamin H and Caroline (Smith) Swint. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
A graduate of Charleston Catholic High School, she received a BA degree in biology from the College of Notre Dame, Baltimore MD and a master's degree in speech and drama from Catholic University of America. After teaching biology and heading the drama department at Mount de Chantal Visitation Academy, Wheeling, from 1944 to 1966, she enjoyed a second career as an artist. Her artwork has included religious paintings as well as representations of the Suspension Bridge and other Wheeling landmarks.
Sr Agnes de Sales is survived by one brother, and one sister and a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
