John Perry was know as Perry. His parents were:
Francis Marion Roberson (1847 - 1922)
Sarah Elizabeth Woodward Roberson (1852 - 1943)

On February 16, 1925, almost three years after his father's death, Perry married Nancy Harris. He brought his new bride to his parent's house, to live with his mother, who was 73 years old.

Perry & Nancy had five children: Eileen, John, Henry, Florence, and Bynum.

Sarah was fond of the children & helped care for them. Sarah's granddaughter, Gussie Marshall, remembers how Sarah was constantly holding the young children on her lap.

Perry & Nancy were devoted to his mother & helped care for her after she became helpless. Nancy prepared all the meals in the kitchen. The food was then brought to the front room where it was served on the dining room table. Two people, on each side of Sarah, always helped her to the table where she sat in "her chair" in the same place for every meal. After the meal she was helped up from the table, and always went to bed.

Eventually Perry sold the house and moved his family & mother to Lamar in Johnson County. They took care of his mother until she died on November 27, 1943. She was buried beside his father in the Essex Cemetery.
