On June 6, 1900,
Chalk & Martha A. Robinson, ages 26 & 21, were renting a farm in Pleasant Hill Township, Newton Co, AR where he supported his family by farming. They had 2 children, Sadie, age 4 & William H., 4 months. Chalk & Martha had been married 6 years; she had given birth to 3 children, but only Sadie & William were living.

On April 16, 1910,
William E., age 37, & Mattie R., 31, lived on a farm they were renting in Pleasant Hill, Newton Co, MO. By this time they had been married 15 years. Their children were: William H., age 11; Teddie, 7; Sutterfield, 3; & John, ten months.

Mattie died sometime before January 1920.

Chalk, shown as E. William, age 47, a widow, lived with his parents, F. Marion, age 73, & E. Sarah, 67, on their farm in Pleasant Hill, Newton Co, AR. Chalk's brother, J. Perry, age 30, still single, was another member of the family. His sister, Nettie, age 27, was still single & lived at home. Chalk's brother, James, lived on an adjacent farm with his large family.

Francis & Sarah's house has been described as being typical of that period, which consisted of two long rooms connected by a long narrow hall way. The large front room, which served as a dining room & bedroom, had a big fireplace at one end. The large room at the back of the house, connected by the hall way, was furnished with extra beds for company. The kitchen was a lean-to built on the side of the house. Here, the meals were prepared & brought into the front room to be served. The long dining table with benches on each side sat in the middle of the front room.

Chalk's father operated a merchandise business from their home. He & his brother, John Perry, helped with the animals & farm work.

On April 13, 1930,
Chalk, shown as William E. Roberson, age 59, lived with his son, William H., age 29, & his wife, Ethel, 21, & their two daughters, L. Ruth, age 5, & Ouar Fay, age 2 & 9 months. His son, a farmer, was renting a home in Perry, Johnson Co, AR.
