Mr. James was born on November 3, 1927 in Greenville, SC, the son of the late George James and Dora Smith James.
He was a Staff Manager for 43 years with the Independent Life and Accident Insurance Company.
Mr. James was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during WWII. Daniel served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving in the Philippines.
A former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #3142, he was also a member of The American Legion, Post #0172.
Daniel was lovingly called "Jessie James" by his colleagues and friends. He had a clever wit with a charming personality. Daniel was a firm believer in his Lord, he lived his entire life as a witness to his faith.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruby Melton James of North Charleston, SC; daughters, Nancy James Brown, Gail James Alexander; sons, Daniel E. James Jr., Tony Edgar James; sisters, Grace Wooten and Frances Bridwell; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his loving poodle, Peaches.
The friends and relatives of Daniel James are invited to attend his Funeral Service, July 26, 2012, in the Remount Baptist Church, North Charleston, at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.
