Age 73, son of the late Emidio and Elena DiLuzio Verdecchia. Dr. Verdecchia graduated from the former Academy High School in 1943. He entered the U.S. Army's specialized training program through the University of Illinois and served during World War II. He earned his doctorate from the University of Buffalo in 1951 and performed internships at Saint Vincent Health Center and the University of Buffalo's Edward J. Meyer Memorial Hospital. He began OB/GYN practice in Erie in 1956 and was an associate surgeon of the OB/GYN Association of Erie since 1991. He was also chairman of the OB/GYN department at Saint Vincent for five years. He was a member of
numerous medical and local social organizations. He attended Saint Peter Cathedral.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rita Tonty and Margaret Verdecchia, and two brothers, Nicholas and William Verdecchia.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Elizabeth ''Bette" Cairns Verdecchia; two daughters, Ann V. Moore of Niskayuna, N.Y., and her husband, Martin, and Julie V. Leonard of Erie and her husband, Frank; two sons, Edward L. Verdecchia of Erie and his wife, Denise, and Matthew D. Verdecchia of Plymouth Meeting, Pa., and his wife, Susan; two sisters, Jean V. Jiuliante and Emma V. Gambatese, both of Erie; two brothers, Louis A. Verdeccia and Charles P. Verdecchia and his wife, Betty, all of Erie; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
