The only daughter of Melvin Gurney and Letitia Letitia of Brooklyn NY. She married William Bulkeley in Brooklyn in 1863 and lived for 54 years at their home at 110 Washington St in Hartford. In her obituary, she was described as the "last of the old residents of the block which for many years was a center of social and political life, not only of this city, but of the state."
She served as director of the YWCA and a member of the finance committee of The Union for Home Work.
