Last Rites Today at 2 p.m. For Mrs Peele, 5 p.m. For the W.H. Coopers

Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth B. Peele, one of three persons killed at Cox Crossing near the Fairgrounds Friday night, when the Seaboard's streamliner,"The Palmland", crashed into the automobile in which they were riding will be held from the First Baptist Church this afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Mrs. Peele, who was 77 years old, was the daughter of the late Napoleon B. Bellamy and wife, and the wife of the late William J. Peele, member of the Raleigh bar and one of the founders of North Carolina State College. Peele Hall was named in his honor. He was a member of the law firm of Peele and Maynard for many years. Mrs Peele's husband died March 28, 1919; her mother, December 8, 1929, and her father died when she was a small child. Her maternal grandfather was the late Albert Johnson, who moved to Raleigh from Richmond, in 1840, when he ran the first engine into Raleigh over the Raleigh and Gaston Railroad, the first link in the present Seaboard Air Line, one of whose trains crashed into the automobile in which she met her death. Her nearest relatives are cousins.

Mrs. Peele was among Raleigh's first public school teachers, being one of the grades at the old Centennial School, which occupied the site where the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium now stands. Later, she was the first teacher of domestic science and home economics in the Raleigh public schools. She assisted her husband in writing and editing several books, also the late Josephus Daniels in the editing of one of his books.

For many years, Mrs. Peele, was assistant to the late Henry London, head of the Legislative Reference Library. During that period, she wrote many bills for the legislators, during sessions of the General Assembly. Her knowledge of law and law books qualified her for this service. For many years, she assisted in compiling and editing the North Carolina Manual. One of the outstanding pieces of work to her credit was an index to the public, local and private laws relating to the counties, cities and towns, from 1800 to 1945.

Mrs Peele also was active in church and welfare work, having been a member of the First Baptist Church since childhood.
