Son of Harry Ball and Mary Paula Leonard.

In 1900, Edwin Ball, aged 6 months, could be found living the village of Patchogue, NY with his parents, Harry Ball, aged 39, a Reader at the lace mill, and Paula Ball, aged 36, and siblings, Nellie, aged 13, Harry, aged 11, Myra, aged 9, Emily, aged 6, Adolphus, aged 5, Edna, aged 3, and Walter, aged 2.

August 2, 1912 - Patchogue, L.I., - Edwin Ball, 13 years old, saved his sister Mira from probable death yesterday when they were bathing together in Patchogue Lake. Notwithstanding the little fellow's years, and the fact that his sister is a young woman of 19, he heroically plunged to her rescue and dragged her ashore, when she was drowning in a deep hole in the lake. Edwin and his sister live with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ball, on West Main Street, near the lake. It is not an unusual thing for the children of the family to frequent its waters, although at the spot where they bathe there is a treacherous drop-off into deep water. Forgetting this, Miss Ball wandered too far out and slid down into ten feet of water before she could help herself. Edwin, hearing a gurgling, looked up and saw his sister's hand sticking out of the water as she was sinking for the second time. He plunged headlong to the rescue, at the same time yelling to his little sister Florence, who was sitting on the shore, to rush for help. The little girl's screams brought Mrs. Ball and other members of the family to the scene, but when they arrived, which probably would have been too late, Miss Ball was lying on the shore, where young Edwin, in a supreme effort, had dragged her to safety.

In 1915, Edwin Ball, aged 15, was shown living with his parents, Harry Ball, 54, and Paula Ball, 51, with siblings, Emily, 20, Walter, 16, Lillian, 13, and Florence Ball, aged 11. His father was shown to be a lace pattern foreman at the lace mill.

Edwin Ball, aged 18 years, 4 months, born in Patchogue, NY, enlisted in the Navy at the Navy Recruiting Station, Pelham Bay, NY on April 18, 1918. He served at the Naval Training Camp in Pelham Bay, attaining the rank of Seaman, 2nd Class, and was discharged on August 19, 1919.

Edwin Ball, aged 26 years 8 months and 24 days was buried by Ruland's Funeral Home on August 19, 1926. The funeral was paid for by Harry Ball.
