Andrew Konop, an old resident and businessman of this village, passed
away at his home last Thursday after a lingering illness of some 11
years incident to infirmities due to old age and spinal trouble. He
was 78 years of age, born in Bohemia. Mr. Konop came to the “land of
opportunity” in early manhood when 26 and settled on a farm at
Stangelville where he later married Miss Margaret Cisler who survives
him. He held the office of town chairman for four years and also town
treasurer for over ten years of the Town of Franklin, Kewaunee Co. In
1903, Mr. Konop purchased the flour and feed mill here at Tisch Mills
and was sole owner for some time. Later, his son-in-law, Edward Schlies,
became a partner and when Mr. Konop retired, his interests were taken
over by his son Joseph, the firm going by the name of Schlies & Konop.
A tireless worker, Mr. Konop prospered, he having the patronage of
farmers for miles around which the mill still receives today. Funeral
services were held from the home and St. Mary’s Catholic church, the
Rev. Shimek officiating. Mr. Konop enjoyed a large circle of friends
and there was a large attendance at the funeral. Besides his wife,
four children survive. They are Mrs. Fannie Schlies, Mrs. Mary Forst,
and Joseph of Tisch Mills, and Mrs. Anna Hawver of Milwaukee.
