CARL EDWARD BURKGREN

Carl Edward Burkgren, son of John and Caroline Burkgren, was born at the parental farm southwest of Dayton, on May 16, 1877. He was baptized on June 7, 1877, by Pastor C.A. Hemborg, and on May 22, 1892, he was confirmed in Emanuel Lutheran Church, of Dayton, by the same pastor. He has remained a life-long member of this congregation.

Mr. Burkgren was educated in the rural schools of his home community, and in his quiet way showed an active interest in his home and community.

In 1918, he moved with his mother and two brothers, Frank and Martin, to the home in Dayton, where he resided until his death.

Although he had been failing in health for the past two years, he had been up and about each day until just a few days before his death. He became seriously ill last Sunday, November 16, and passed away in the early evening of that day, at about 6:30 o'clock. His age was 75 years and 6 months.

Mr. Burkgren is survived by three sisters; Mrs. Mary Gustafson, Mrs. Agnes Anderson and Mrs. Anna Abrahamson; three brothers; Frank, Martin and Obed Burkgren, all of whom reside in the Dayton community. He is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death are his father and mother, a sister, Esther, and a nephew, Gilbert Gustafson. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 19, 1:30 at the home and 2:00 p.m. at the Emanuel Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Dayton Cemetery.
