She was always called Ruth. Ruth loved music. She took vocal lessons and had a singing range of 3 octaves. She had to give them up when the Depression hit. Ruth worked as a teacher to help her family. While in Evanston, IL visiting her sister, she met a handsome man at a Church outing named Robert Vickerman. Ruth and Robert would marry and have 4 children. They owned and ran Vick's Cafe in Keosauqua.
