Justina Bohun "Bohn" Downard immigrated to the United States about 1882 with her mother Franziska Roth Bohn and her brother, Otto. Her father, Heinrich Bohn died in Germany. She was orphaned about 1888 and raised by her Aunt Lucy Brooks (Lucy was Fraziska's sister). She married John Lincoln Downard in 1906. Justina and John had 11 children.

Spelling of her maiden name... the correct spelling in German is Bohn. At some point in her life the spelling was changed to Bohun.

Mrs. Justina Bokun Downard 85, died Sunday, Dec. 5 at 9:30 a.m. at her home near Keosauqua.
Born in Germany, Nov 9,1880, she came to the Unites states when two years of age.
She married J.L. Downard Feb. 15, 1906 at Blair, Pa. and he died in 1950.
Mrs. Downard resided at Keosauqua 29 years.
She was a member of the Christian church.
Survivors include six sons, Roy of Franklin Park Ill; Dale of Knoxville, Robert of Peoria, Ill.: Verne and Orlen of Keosauqua; four daughters, Mrs. Frances Danneil, of Glenview, Ill.; Mrs. Roberta Lerche, of Wellington Kan.; Mrs. Marguerite Archabald and Mrs. Ruth Vickerman, both of Keosauqua.
Besides her husband, a son, John, preceded her in death.
The service was held Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian church, with the Rev.Larry McAdoo officiating. Burial was in Miller Chapel cemetery, north- east of Keosauqua.
