Judson's life ended tragically. About the week of Feb 13, 1886, he traveled to Atlanta, GA to look into land. Securing the information desired and some letters of introduction to parties in Fort Valley and other places in the southern part of the state, he left the city. He returned to Atlanta a week later in a dazed, agitated state. The police found him wandering the streets late on a bitterly cold night and sent him to the police station's holding cells thinking he was drunk. During the night he committed suicide; his body was returned to Plainfield for burial. The reasons behind his action remain unknown.
