Chico Enterprise-Record, Friday, June 13, 1958: "Clarence H. Loomis, 73, of 438 West Second Avenue, died early yesterday morning at his residence.
"A native of Texas, he was born April 5, 1885, and, when a small boy, moved with his family to Port Oklahoma. He was married there and engaged in farming until moving to Chico in 1920. Mr. Loomis was employed for several years at Byrne's Market and was also on the fire department at the Municipal Airport. He and his wife owned and operated Loomis' (now Smiley's) Book Store from 1945 to 1947.
"Besides his wife, Lilly, he is survived by a son, Roy Loomis, of San Francisco; three daughters, Mrs. Jack Hanson of Sacramento; Mrs. Madeline Bachad of Seattle, Wash.; and Mrs. Maxine Snider of Birmingham, Mich.; four sisters, Mrs. Bessie Tyner, of Elk City, Okla., and Mrs. Eva Bradley, Mrs. Elsie Hobson, and Mrs. Virgie Best, all of Chico; a brother, Ralph Loomis of Angels Camp; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
"Private funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of the Chico Funeral Home, with the Rev. Glenn E. Riddell of the First Christian Church officiating.
"Cremation and inurnment will follow at the Chico Memorial Mausoleum."
