Albertina R. Schopen
JEFFERSON - Albertina "Tina" R. Schopen, 96, of Jefferson, transitioned from an earthly life on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at home.
She was born on Jan. 31, 1918, in Hewitt, to Albert and Anna (Daniels) Schiferl.
She married Joseph N. Schopen on June 1, 1938, in Hewitt. Together they farmed, later owning and operating an insurance agency from 1944 to 1974, with Tina retiring in 1989. He preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1995.
Tina enjoyed people; worldwide traveling, which she did extensively; tap dancing, furniture refinishing and genealogy. Her spouse, Joe, five children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, siblings, parents and all her her ancestors are, and were, near and dear to her.
Faith, spirituality and religion became disciplines in her life. She was part of a faith group in Madison, Living Waters Ecumenical Prayer Group in Oconomowoc, and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Community in Whitewater.
Surviving are two daughters, Joan (Jerome) Miller of Jefferson and Janice (Terry) Holman-Haeggquist of Rockford; three sons, Joseph Schopen and Jeffry (Laurie) Schopen, both of Jefferson, and Jerome (Teresa) Schopen of Mauston; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sr. Leonelle Schiferl, SSND, of Elm Grove; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She also was preceded in death by six brothers, Raymond, Leo, Herbert, Edmund, Winand and Joseph Schiferl; and two sisters, Anna Wanke and Sr. Ann Therese Schiferl, SSND.
A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Whitewater at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, with the Rev. Stephen Forrest officiating.
Friends may call at the Olsen Funeral Home in Jefferson today from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., and at the church on Saturday after 9 a.m. until the time of services.
As per Tina's wishes, her body will be donated to the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Whitewater or the charity of one's choice.
