Charlotte Roberta "Bertie" Ritchie Yancey, 72, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, loving wife of Joe C. Yancey, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012.
Charlotte was born December 11, 1939, in Fulks Run, VA. She was the youngest daughter of the late Lucy Fulk and Russell Ritchie of Fulks Run, Va.
On May 24, 1980, Charlotte married Joe C. Yancey of Harrisonburg in Alexandria, Va. Charlotte is survived by three sons, Rickey Layman and wife, Tammy, Dennis Layman and friend, Shelby Clark, and Kent Layman and wife, Teresa, all of Broadway; adopted daughter, Lorie Miller and her husband, Rob, of Harrisonburg; four granddaughters; two grandsons and numerous great-grandchildren and special cousins.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Alta Geneva Ritchie Miller, and her special yorkie, Max.
Charlotte worked at Rockingham Memorial Hospital for 23 years. She was a nursing assistant for Outlook Pointe Assisted Living and did a great deal of private nursing.
She was a member of Fulks Run Baptist Church, belonged to the Waynesboro/Staunton Region Antique Auto Club and the Tri-County Antique Auto Club.
She always wanted the people she knew to celebrate the legacy of her life with brilliant smiles, remembering her always.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with Pastor Jerry Shiflet officiating. Burial will follow the service at Lacey Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
