Her father was a British immigrant, born in England about 1878. She married James Russell Alger on Wed, 14 Feb 1923, in Donora, Washington Co, PA. The following four children were born of their union: Virginia May, James Russell, Florence Elaine and Arlene E.
Elsie discovered that her husband had committed adultery in which a daughter, Lois E. [Mullen] Podesta, was born. He then abandoned both Elsie and their three surviving daughters, as well as Lois and her mother. Elsie altered their surnames from Alger to Algers and raised her girls on her own.
