Lois E. (Mullen) Podesta, 84, of Holden, died peacefully in the presence of her loving family and caring staff at Radius Healthcare Center in Worcester on Sunday, September 9, 2012. Born and raised in Donora, Pennsylvania, Lois was the daughter of Charles F. and Margaret L. (Harrison) Mullen and lived 45 years in Holden.

Lois graduated from Donora High School in 1946 and attended accounting school for two years. She was a supervisor in the accounts payable department at UMass Medical Center in Worcester where she worked more than 20 years retiring in 1998. She was a former member of St. George Church in Worcester its Women's Guild, Daughters of Isabella and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Jefferson and the Holden Red Hat Society.

Lois will be remembered for her caring, devotion and good hearted nature for helping others. Upon retirement, she enjoyed swimming every week and traveling to Europe several times with her sister and brother. Lois had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's seven years ago. She remarkably faced this condition with dignity and courage. She never lost the ability to say "I Love You".

Her husband of 48 years, Raymond P. Podesta died September 9, 2003, nine years ago on the same day as Lois. She is survived and will be lovingly missed by her four children, Raymond A. Podesta of Winchendon, Charles H. Podesta of Burlington, Vermont, Brian J. Podesta of Millbury and Patricia M. Podesta of Holden; a brother, Charles F. Mullen, Jr. of Valparaiso, Indiana; a sister, Margaret Walmsley of Clairton, Pennsylvania; 7 grandchildren, Ray, Anthony, Christopher, Stephanie, Amy, Kimberly, and her God daughter, Marissa; nephews and nieces. Besides her husband she is predeceased by a son, Bradley M. Podesta who died in 2008.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 14, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The family meeting again at 12 noon in the funeral home on Saturday, September 15, and process to St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson for a 1 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at Grove Cemetery, 1284 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472, or the Activities Fund at Radius Healthcare Center, Worcester, 119 Providence Street, Worcester, MA 01604.
