He was the son of Robert L. & Lovina (Tucker) Parris. His father died in 1864 in the Civil War. His mother died a few months later. He was raised by his uncle William Tucker.

He married Tennessee Ann Loftis, 18 Mar 1886, Dickson County, Tennessee.

He was the father of eleven children;
