Born February 6, 1922 in Oil City, he was the son of the late Charles and Myrtle Bixler Winger.
He was a graduate of the Oil City High School and also completed courses at Greenville College in Greenville, Indiana.
Mr. Winger attended services at the Gerry Free Methodist Church in New York; and also at Cranberry United Methodist Church and the Willow Street Free Methodist Church of Oil City.
He was employed in the shipping department at the Pennzoil Refinery in Rouseville, retiring in 1986 after nearly forty years of service.
He enjoyed mowing his grass and took great pride in the care of his lawn and landscape. He also enjoyed woodworking and H-O scale model railroads.
He was married in Cochranton on December 7, 1951 to the former Gertrude Virginia Young, who survives. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary just last year.
Also surviving are five children, Michael Winger and wife Gail of Lakewood, Colorado; Luann Valdesalice and husband Bill of Franklin; Laura Winger of Spring Lake, N. Carolina; Gerald Winger of Gaston, S. Carolina; and Amy Liddle and husband Kevin of Rochester, New York; seven grandchildren, Jen Valdesalice, David and Renee Winger, Jerry Lee Winger, and Kyle, Nicole, and Zachary Liddle; four step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Oliver Winger and wife Myra of Virginia; and a sister, Myrtle Kline of Atlanta, Georgia. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice States (Dale) and Dora Boaz (Leo); and two brothers, Howard (Peg) and Robert Winger (Rusty).
A memorial service to celebrate his life was held Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Cranberry United Methodist Church, Rte. 322 in Cranberry, with Rev. Linda Dinger, church pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery.
