Mrs. Root was born August 21, 1870, in Morris, a daughter of Edward H. and Lusina Carr Matterson. She attended local schools and a business school. On March 21, 1894 she married Reuben Root. She leaves a sister, Miss Lydia Matterson, New Berlin, and a bother, F. Leslie Matterson, South New Berlin; three nieces and one nephew. The funeral was held on Monday from the Dakin Funeral Home. The Rev. Benjamin Taylor, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was in Hillington Cemetery, Morris."
