"MORRIS ... Lucinda Carr Matteson [sic], the eighth of the twelve children of Green and Sally Priest Carr was born January 29, 1843, in the town of Laurens. In early womanhood she was united in marriage with Edwin Matteson, and her entire married life was spent on the Matte[r]son farm in Upper Dimmock Hollow, near the head of Allen's Pond. To them were born seven children, two of whom, Mrs. Neva Matte[r]son Elliott and Mrs. Ellen Matte[r]son Bell, died several years ago. After the death of her husband about twenty years ago, Mrs. Matte[r]son went to New Berlin to live with her daughter, Mrs. La Pearl Camp, who has faithfully cared for her during her long invalidism. Mrs. Matte[r]son's ancestors, the Priests were among the first settlers in the town of Laurens. They purchased a large tract of land around what is now Pool Brook before 1800 ..." Mrs. Matteson's ancestors, the Priests, were among the first settlers in the town of Laurens. They purchased a large tract of land around what is known as Pool Brook before 1800. The deceased was a woman of unfailing sympathy and kindness of heart. In the neighborhood of her home she was especially esteemed as she was ever ministering to the wants of others as long as her health permitted. She leaves a wide circle of friends who will cherish her memory. Immediate surviving relatives are four daughters, Mrs. Jesse Padgett, Mrs. Susie Root, Mrs. LaPearl Camp, and Miss Lydia Matteson, all of New Berlin; a son, Leslie Matteson of South New Berlin; also three granddaughters, one grandson and three great grandchildren, to all of whom sincere sympathy is extended. Funeral services conducted by the Rev. J. M. McCullough of the New Berlin Baptist church, were held at her late residence on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, after which the remains were brought to Hillington cemetery vault in Morris pending burial in the family plot in the spring."
