Isaac was the son of Absalom and Frankey Braboy. He married Aggie Jane Chavis, daughter of Hugh and Clarrissa Chavis, on Jan. 4, 1859 in Robeson County, North Carolina. He was married to Rhoda Braboy at the time of his death.
In 1887, he along with John J. Oxendine and Ollin Oxendine were elected by the four trustees that were selected by the North Carolina General Assembly (Rev. W. L. Moore, Preston Locklear, James "Big Jim" Oxendine, and James E. Dial, Sr.) to become the first Board of Trustees for the Croatan Indian Normal School, currently known as the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
