Cumsey, Sr., was the son of C. B. "Cumsey" Brayboy and Sallie Oxendine. He married Mary Jacobs on Nov. 19, 1905 in the Burnt Swamp section of Robeson County, North Carolina. After Mary's death, he married Ruth Ellen Carter on Nov. 9, 1933 in Pembroke, NC.

The following was taken from the Sep. 5, 1951 edition of THE ROBESONIAN:

C. D. Brayboy, 68, R. 1, Pembroke, died at his home yesterday at 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the First Methodist church in Pembroke. Mr. Brayboy was a member of the Sandy Plains church, but remodeling there prevents its use for the services. Rev. D. F. Lowry and Rev. L. W. Jacobs will be in charge of the ceremony. Burial will be in the Brayboy plot at Sandy Plains.

The deceased had been in declining health for several years and had been confined to his home for almost a year.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruth E. Brayboy, and by 18 children. He was first married to the late Mary Jacobs Brayboy and there are ten sons and four daughters of that marriage. Four daughters of his second marriage survive him.

***NOTE: His name should read C. B. Brayboy in his THE ROBESONIAN obituary.

***NOTE: His paternal grandfather, Isaac Braboy, is buried at Saint Annah Freewill Baptist in Pembroke, NC.
