He graduated with a Degree in Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1912. Lieut. MacDonnell was wounded in a bombardment west of the Meuse River and died in the hospital after the Armistice from complications as a result of his wounds.
He was the son of George W. MacDonnell and Lily K. Burleson. He was named for his uncle, Albert S. Burleson, who was Postmaster-General in the cabinet of President Woodrow Wilson and his great-uncle Thomas Sneed, who was Mayor of Austin, Texas.
He was the grandson of Major Edward Burleson and great-grandson of General Edward Burleson.
