Maria (went by Mary or Polly) Burkett was the daughter of Abraham Burkett (1778–1861) and Catherine Heier (1779–1856), who married c1802 at Rowan (now Davidson) County, North Carolina.
Mary married Benjamin Charles Spach/Spaugh (went by Charles) (1801–1859) on 11 Mar 1827 at Putnam County, Indiana. Mary and Charles were the parents of four known children, namely:
1. Sarah Ann Spaugh Johnson (1827-1892)
2. Elizabeth Spaugh Pickett (1830-1921)
3. Eliza Spaugh (1833-a1850)
4. Sanford Spaugh (1834-a1850)
After Mary died, Charles remarried to Mary's sister, Eliza (Elizabeth?) B. Burkett (1817-1875) on 24 Mar 1835 at Putnam County, Indiana and had an additional nine known children. After Charles died, Eliza remarried to the Rev. Martin Hauser/Houser (1799-1875) on 21 Jun 1868 at Hope, Bartholomew County, Indiana.
