Eliza first married to the widower Benjamin Charles Spach (became Spaugh) (1801-1859) on 24 Mar 1835 at Putnam County Indiana. Benjamin had previously been married to Eliza's elder sister, Maria (went by Polly) Burkett (1803-1834) on 11 Mar 1827 at Putnam County, Indiana and were the parents of four children.
Eliza and Benjamin were the parents of nine known children, namely:
1. Mary Jane Spaugh Phillips (1836-1918)
2. Nancy Catherine Spaugh Pike (1838-???)
3. Charlotte Spaugh (1841-1852)
4. Dulcena Spaugh McFall (1842-1895)
