Ferdinand Bessert, 97 (photo), retired town of Rockland farmer, died Saturday at his home.
Born in 1853 at Trealaff Greifenberg, Germany, Mr. Bessert came to this country at the age of 15 with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bessert, and located in Rockland. In 1887 he married the former Miss Bertha Fischer, who died 56 years ago. He was a lifelong member of Sts. John and James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Reedsville.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Reedsville Funeral Home, Reedsville, and at 2 p.m. at Sts. John and James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Reedsville, Rev. Elwood Habermann officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Richard Reinke and Miss Adina Bessert, both of the town of Rockland; two sons, Reinhard and Otto, both of the town of Rockland; sister, Mrs. Augusta Noble of Manitowoc; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 p.m. Monday until the time of services.
