She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1947, and Colorado College in Colorado Springs in 1949, with a bachelor's degree in history. She lived in Ottumwa until 1949, moving to Carson Valley, Nev. in 1956. She taught elementary school in the Denver, Colorado area from 1949 to 1955, and in Ottumwa in 1955. She also taught in Carson City, Minden and Gardnerville elementary schools in Nevada from 1957 to 1959.
She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta, Carson Valley Methodist Church, Carson Valley University Women's Club, Nevada Chapter of the Mayflower Society, Sierra Philharmonic League and a charter member and president of the Friends of Douglas County Library.
She was survived by a daughter; Mary Godecke of Gardnerville; two sons, Frank Godecke of Gardnerville and Henry Godecke of Lovelock, Nev; three grandchildren and a sister Alice Haynes of Mason City, Iowa.
