Charles Payton, Jr., 85, of Eminence, formerly of Bethlehem and Louisville, died Friday, March 2, 2001 at Homestead Nursing Center, New Castle. He was the son of the late Charles and Ada Katherine Purvis Payton, Sr., a retired farmer, an auto mechanic and a member of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two daughters: Betty Jean (Robert) Eadens, Lexington and Geraldine (Bill) Talbert, New Castle; three sons: Bobby Joe Payton, Louisville, Edward Harold Payton, Shepherdsville and Chester Thomas Payton, Fairdale; one sister: Jo Ann McCarty, Eminence; one brother: Tommy Payton, Eminence; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Perry Payton.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, March 4 at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Rev. Rick Coleman, Pastor of the New Castle Christian Church, officiated. Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.
