PORT BARRE - Funeral services for Mr. Willie J. Reed Jr., 83, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church here with burial in the church cemetery. Military services will be conducted at the cemetery. The Rev. Mike Hebert will conduct the services.
Mr. Reed, a native and resident of Port Barre, died Sunday, December 29, 2002, in the V.A Hospital in Alexandria. He was-a carpenter and an oilfield worker. Mr. Reed; was a member of the St. Landry Parish Police Jury for many years, a veteran of World War II, a member of the Local VFW in Port Barre and a long time member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Yvonne R. Godchaux and husband Joe Fred and Mrs. Judy R. Landry and husband Ernest, both of Port Barre; a son, Raymond J. Reed and wife Karen of Port Barre; three sisters, Mrs. Virginia R. Guidry and Mrs. Anna Mae Roberts, both of Port Barre, and Mrs. Joycelyn Touchet of Baton Rouge; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Reed was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Wyble Reed; his parents, Willie J. Reed Sr. and Anna Lahaye Reed; a son, Oren J. Reed; a brother, Herbert Reed; four sisters, Lelia R. Ratelle, Irene Talley, Lillian Lanclos and Frances R. Hatten; a granddaughter, Lona Gay Reed; and two great grandchildren, Brittany and Candice Landry.
Visiting hours will be observed from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. today (Monday) and from 8 a.m. Tuesday until time of services. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre, 585-6812, is in charge of arrangements.
