Port Barre- A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre, LA, for Mrs. Virginia Reed Guidry. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Barre. Father Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass.
Mrs. Virginia was a native and life long resident of Port Barre. She was known to many as "Gin."
She passed away at Senior Village Nursing Home of Opelousas on July 6, 2014, at the age of 99. She was a homemaker and a loving wife, caring mother, sister, and grandmother who will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was always working in her yard doing gardening or tending to her flowers.
Survivors include one son, Carl J. Guidry and wife, Barbara of Baton Rouge; one sister, Joycelyn Touchet of Baton Rouge; 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Guidry; her parents, Willie J. Reed, Sr. and Anna LaHaye Reed; two brothers, Herbert Reed and Willie J. Reed, Jr.; and five sisters, Lelia R. Ratelle, Irene Talley, Lilllian Lanclos, Frances Hatten, and Anna Mae Reed Roberts.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. On Wednesday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home.
