Dr. Lawrence Milton Arthur, 39, local physician and surgeon, died shortly after 11 this morning from a bullet wound, which Dr. C.E. Magner, coroner, said was self-inflicted. He had been in critical condition since Thursday night when his wife, Helen, found him wounded in the basement of their home at 2405 Avenue North. Dr. Magner said today Dr. Arthur had been in ill health for some time and suffering a nervous breakdown several months ago had voluntarily entered the veteran's hospital for treatment. Since his release from the hospital May 1, he had been "very depressed." Mrs. Arthur rushed down to the basement after hearing a shot and found Dr. Arthur on the basement floor with his .32 caliber automatic nearby. The Arthurs' son, Rolland, 5, was staying with his uncle Jouett Allin. Born March 23, 1925, in Great Falls, Dr. Arthur was survived by, in addition to his widow and son, a sister, Mrs. Jouett, a brother Forrest, both of Great Falls.
