Knightstown, March 2--Samuel P. Hiatt, 70, died at his home here last night at 9 o'clock. He was stricken with paralysis two weeks ago, while at Spiceland, assisting in the care of his brother Clark, who had been in a critical condition for many weeks. From the time of this attack he had never been conscious, and was brought to his home here last week.

Mr. Hiatt suffered his first attack at New Castle one day last April, while he was on the way from his room uptown to the Maxwell factory, where he was employed. This was only a very slight attack and he was away from the factory a brief time, probably a day or two.

The deceased is survived by two sons, Willard and Raymond Hiatt, and one daughter, the latter being Miss Florence Hiatt, who up to the time of her father's fatal attack, was employed in the office of the Interstate Public Service Co. at New Castle; also two brothers and one sister survive him.

Mr. Hiatt had faithfully filled many positions of public trust: As marshall of Knightstown, rural mail carrier, and later, as a police officer at the Maxwell Motor plant in New Castle. His wife, who was Miss Ida Newby, died several years ago.

Funeral will take place from the Friends church in this place, of which he was a member, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Doan officiating. The Knights of Pythias Lodge, of Knightstown, will have charge of the burial, which will take place at Glen Cove Cemetery.
