Campbellsport Man Killed in Highway Crash
A Campbellsport farmer was killed and two others were injured at 5pm Thursday in a two-car collision at the intersection of a county trunk road and Highway 55 in Fond du Lac county.
Adolph Glass, 62, a former Sheboygan county resident, died en route to St. Joseph's hospital, West Bend, in a Kewauskum ambulance.
Injured in the crash were Glass' son, Elroy, 30, and Gerry Tuttle, 36, also of Campbellsport.
Attendants at St. Joseph's hospital held out little hope for Tuttle's recovery. They said he had a fractured skull and multiple injuries to the head and body.
Son Drove Car
The younger Glass is suffering from a dislocated right wrist, minor cuts and shock. A physician described his condition at noon today as "good."
The crash victim was a passenger in a car driven by his son, which was struck by Tuttle's south-bound automobile when it crossed Highway 55 from County Trunk E directly in the path of the Tuttle car.
Fond du Lac county traffic officers said that he was thrown from the car with the impact of the collision. Dr. J.E. Murray, county coroner, listed a skull fracture as the cause of death.
The coroner said he was investigating the accident to determine whether an inquest is necessary. The crash occurred about a mile north of the Washington-Fond du Lac county line, and three miles east of Campbellsport.
Adolph Glass was born Aug. 20, 1887, in the town of Scott, and was married to Edna Schmidt at Beechwood on June 26, 1918. The couple made their home in the vicinity of Beechwood most of their lives.
About nine years ago the family moved to the Campbellsport area and engaged in farming in the town of Auburn.
Survivors are the widow, four sons, Elroy, Orville and Roland, at home, and Marloe, Wayne, Wis.; two daughters, Mrs. Albert Wesenberg, Jr., Town Auburn, and Mrs. Reuben Fritz, Theresa; two sisters, Mrs. Mathilda Schroeter, Kewauskum, and Mrs. Florentina Suemnicht, Cascade, and a twin brother, Arthur, Beechwood.
Private funeral services will be held Sunday noon at the Twohig Funeral home, Campbellsport, and at 3pm at the St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church at Beechwood.
Rev. Melvin E. Schroer, pastor, will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home after 2pm Saturday.
